Deputy involved shooting at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

This is interesting.

Video of a deputy involved shooting at a Fairfax, VA Hospital.

This incident occured on August 15, 2016 at Inova Fairfax Hospital.  At about 50 seconds in, you see Mr. Gomez start swinging at the security officer.  At 3:20, the deputy arrives on scene.  At 3:30, Mr. Gomez charges at the deputy.  At 3:34, Mr. Gomez falls to the ground.

For the most part, private security ony observes and reports.  When the guy started swinging at them, they did as they should and they got out of the way.

In Fairfax, there is both a Police Department and a Sheriff's Office.  Now the deputies tend to handle the courts and civil matters, while the police are tasked with the handling of legal matters.

I'm not too clear on why the deputy was at the hospital.

There wasn't much time for the deputy to defend himself.  If I recall correctly, deputies in Fairfax are not issued Tasers.  On an aside, the 9th Circuit ruled that Tasers were tantamount to lethal force, so many agencies are now getting rid of them.  (My agency is letting the majority of them age out, while most of our officers are not even bothering to carry them.)

SCARY STORY TIME: "La Llorona- Don't Look For Her, Pretend You Never Saw...

Here you go, a nice story about the lady in black from Unit #522.

A nice telling!

(Maika ft. Oliver & Gumi) La Llorona (Vocaloid Original)

Trick or Treat!

I had intended on scouring YouTube for some nice Halloween vibe videos.  But life and work have been in overdrive (working 12-16 hours straight for two weeks is not fun) so I've been slacking off even more than normal.

So I posted an interesting Vocaloid song by Steampianist based off of a Mexican campfire tale.  I hope you enjoy!

Swamp Witch- Jim Stafford

Well, it's October again!  Halloween is coming up.  Adorable Preciousness will probably be a princess this year, so I guess I'll be dealing with the Disney phase for the next few years.

Anyhow, I am going to start posting either spooky or dark music found on YouTube to get some of us ready for Halloween.

Enjoy!

The Abode of McThag: Defintitions

Quick thoughts on McThag's post "Definitions."

Quick thoughts on McThag's post "Definitions."

McThag had a good post about making the "no fly list" the "no buy list."

Cut and pasted:

It's not that we want terrorists to get hold of guns. It's that what we'd call a terrorist won't match what will be a terrorist by law.

So, how does this apply?  Look, I'm going to make this fast because I've got a lawn to mow and only a few hours before the storms roll in again.

Politicians tend to aim for the low hanging fruit.  They make some half arsed definition that may or may not have real world application.  And those on the no fly list, a good number of them are on it because their ID got stolen after they traveled to a nation that was not as stringent with their security procedures with passports as the USA is.

Look at the AWB.  You could still purchase an AR as long as it didn't have too many "scary" items attached.  Look at the bullet button in California.  It is already been bypassed.

The law is a scary thing when it is drafted incompetently.

I found my old World of Warcraft guild.

Got bored and started searching random terms on Google.

How you word something determines how the results show up.

Today I randomly googled my old guild name and added "World of Warcraft" after it.

I just found that my old guild, "Love Me Dead," is back up and running.  But on a different server than the original.

I recognize a few names on it.

So, pretty much a blast from the past.  Not too sure how to describe my feelings.  I had a lot of fun playing WOW and I loved the social aspect of the game.  But it's not enough to get me back in.  I enjoyed my time on WOW, but it was a major time sink.  I had a lot of fun with the people I met online, but I've lost track of most of them.

It did bring back a lot of good feelings.  But if I went back to WOW it wouldn't be like the old days.

Scott Adams and "gun control."

I don't often read Scott Adams blog.  No reason, it's just not in my reading list.  But he just put out a pretty interesting article entitled Why gun control can't be solved in the USA.

It is quite witty and full of snark.  It does go into how different perceptions make a different argument for each set of voters.

I present to you the fourth paragraph:

"But we do know that race and poverty are correlated. And we know that poverty and crime are correlated. And we know that race and political affiliation are correlated. Therefore, my team (Clinton) is more likely to use guns to shoot innocent people, whereas the other team (Trump) is more likely to use guns for sporting and defense."

Like I said.  His use of snark is excellent.  Adams makes some good points, and is pretty funny doing it.

Go read it.

Lazy Weekends - Make Me Believe

"...let us not reach for the low-hanging fruit of blaming the killer’s guns."

Long time no post.  Sorry to let down my one or two readers.

I have been absolutely sickened by the act of senseless violence down in Florida.  Unfortunately too many activists have been dancing in the blood of the victims in order to preach for gun control.

Too many politicians and activists try to focus on confiscating/controlling firearms from the law abiding, because it is easy to control and measure.  Sadly that is merely reaching for the "low hanging fruit."  It does not properly impact those who act in a criminal nature.

Banning guns will not make the US a paradise.  It did not help the Republic of Mexico, why would it help here?

Here is a link to the Pink Pistols.

"Gwendolyn Patton, First Speaker of the Pink Pistols, an international GLBT self-defense organization, warns people not to jump immediately to the assailant’s guns as the object of blame, but to concentrate instead on Mateen’s violent acts. “The Pink Pistols gives condolences to all family and friends of those killed and injured at Pulse,” began Patton. “This is exactly the kind of heinous act that justifies our existence. At such a time of tragedy, let us not reach for the low-hanging fruit of blaming the killer’s guns. Let us stay focused on the fact that someone hated gay people so much they were ready to kill or injure so many. A human being did this. The human being’s tools are unimportant when compared to the bleakness of that person’s soul. I say again, GUNS did not do this. A human being did this, a dead human being. Our job now is not to demonize the man’s tools, but to condemn his acts and work to prevent such acts in the future.”

Comcast keeps loosing sound!

I have Comcast service.

They suck.

One issue I have is that my basic cable box keeps loosing sound.  I had to replace it multiple times before I figured out the problem.

Apparently the box will switch to Spanish Language.  Why it does this, I don't know.  So what happens is that some channels will be normal, but others will have no sound what so ever.

I've yet to find a channel that will actually speak in Spanish as of yet.

So, this is very annoying.  In order to change the language you have to hit the Xfinity button on the remote and go through the menu there.

Feeling blue.

Sad day.  Dissapointed in life.  Dissapointed in myself.  Can't seem to get my feet underneath of me in order to get my head straight.  There are days like this every so often.  Things will get better.

That's all for now.

Thoughts on Raconteur Report's Adult Supervision & the Media Plan

This is an interesting post.

Raconteur Report: Adult Supervision & the Media Plan

Whenever I teach, I try to stress that perception is reality.  How you perceive yourself is one thing, how others perceive you is another.  And when one is managing an event that is viewed by others, we must put our best professional foot forward.  (The short of it is watch your language and maintain clear verbal commands, while there is more to it I shall not go into it here.)

While a portion of this was directed at the idiocy that was the Oregon occupation, this essay would have been helpful with a lot of the other protests in the past few years such as the Occupy Wall Street groups.

I've noted that different media entities take up for certain...  Protesters?  Activists?  Heck, different alphabet medias will each term the groups different ways depending on how they intend to portray them.  I remember in college that I was taught that the media could not influence a person's decision making.  But they can, due to the fact that they can filter what information is presented thus the viewers are not making fully informed decisions.

Don't Give Up - AMV

Per: wolven outcast

"No matter the wall, no matter the darkness we all try to thrive. Sometimes the burdern is greater than we think we can handle, no matter how hard we strive. We all want to be special if only for a little while, to see the the light at its brightest. but the darkness consumes our every thought, leaving us not even in the slightest. I know, perhaps better it is that i hope there is someone for me. Lonely hearts sometimes find their way, far off the bitter coast into the sea. Love the song and the words, even if for now i cannot feel their warmth. Rest now its time to sleep, before the reaver's sythe i keep."

I was just futzing on YouTube and found this.  Kind of interesting.  So I'm posting this here and I'm going to have to look into them some more when I have more free time.
