Owain Phyfe was a beautiful musician.  I first heard his music on Renradio.  I was intrigued by the sound of his music, even though I was a bit frustrated because I didn't understand the words.  (This was back in the olden ages of the internet, and the music wasn't always identified.)

I found him by accident playing at the North Carolina Renaissance Faire.  (Now defunct, I believe.)  I was in love...  with his music.  I bought some of his tapes (CD players were very expensive back then.)  I actually planned out some of my RenFaire trips just to catch him when he was playing at certain faires.



Owain passed away from cancer just over two years ago.  Please go to Nightwatch Recording and buy his "new" album, "Voice & Vihuela."



On an aside, I need to get some cash scraped together to pick up the last few CD's by Cantiga that I don't own yet.  I had always planned on buying them when I saw them in person, but I have not seen them in person for a few years.

I can't figure out how to post the actual video to this site.  Blogger makes it easy to post from YouTube and not Vimeo.  (Of course, Google owns Blogger and YouTube so that's a pretty straight forward set up right there.)  But go watch it.  It's an awesome short animation about "Death School" for the harvesters of souls in the afterlife.

Years ago, an Early Music group from the broken Eastern Bloc (Russia?  Poland?) came to North Carolina.  They may have visited some other places but I heard a little bit of them there and they also had their music played on RenRadio.com.

This was when I was just getting serious about early music.  But, things changed, computers crashed, and I ended up loosing a lot of their music and all of their info.

And recently I've been finding little bits of them all around.

I present to you "Touridon" by the group Djembe.

I had hoped that the person who posted this video could give me a little more info on the group...  but no luck.  I do hope that some day I'll get more info on the music group Djembe and that maybe I'll be able to own their CD.  (Or what ever media that their music will be played on in the future.)

PaperHeart

Here's an interesting video I found, listed as an AMV.  It's called "PaperHeart AMV."

Quite an interesting video.  It's not an "AMV" because it is all original artwork.  Very beautiful.

I'm not all that happy with YouTube's new home page.  It no longer gives me suggestions.  I don't have too many subscriptions ..  yet it keeps all the "recent" videos on top.  It has a few "because you watched X we give you Y" videos...  but they won't change.  They stay the same every time I log on.  The old YouTube made for some fun browsing.  The new set up is rather bad.

A random foreign music video.

I figured I'd link another random music video.  I remember seeing this one a while back. It was one of those "WTF" videos.  The direction does not make sense and obviously I don't speak the language.

But it's fun to watch.

The video is "Ponponpon," sung by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.  I  had not thought about it in a while but YouTube brought up a similar video on their suggestions page.  When it would not properly play, I followed their link to this one.

Another video stolen from Chris Ex Machina.  This video is Saltatio mortis by Arany Zoltán.  I love the historic imagery of the video.  Plus I'm a big Hurdy Gurdy fan myself.

Music for Halloween III: Lothlorian - "The Black Cat"

The band Lothlorian out of New Zealand put out a CD a few years ago by the title of "Greenwood Side."  Their CD is available from CD Baby.  I first heard this song while listening to WDVR's "Mists of Avalon" hosted by Walt Haake.

Music for Halloween II: Garmana - "Brun"

This is a creepy tune from the northern reaches.  (IE: From Sweden.)  I had first heard their tune from Chris Ex Machina.  Which lead me to purchase a CD of the band.  (Yes, I still buy CD's which I then rip on to my media player.)

The song is played slow.  It is not in English, but the link I provided offers a translation.

Supercell has a new music video out.  "Odds & Ends" featuring Hatsune Miku.

Oddly enough, the digital pop star gets more video time than the artists themselves.

I find it quite odd that I have failed to post this video.  The music is "I Want You" and it is off of the OST that the anime is based on.

For those that are interested, the title of the anime is "Panty and Kneesocks with Garterbelt."  Yes, it is as absurd as the title suggests, but what else would you expect from the studio that also brought you FLCL?
